Chlorophytum

Chlorophytum is a genus of plant within the Asparagaceae family, more commonly known as "Spider" or "Ribbon" plants. Chlorophytums are native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and Australia. Members of this genus are perrenial evergreens, typically not growing taller than 60cm with a round, clustered habit.

The roots are thick, fleshy and tuberous. Some species spread by subterranean rhizomes (underground stems) while others such as the popular Chlorophytum comosum make clonal plantlets on long thin stems that readily root and prolifically produce new plants.
