The Acanthus (Acanthaceae) family is one of 24 families in the mint order (Lamiales). There are approximately 240 genera and 3000-4000 species within the Acanthus family. Mostly herbs and shrubs, however there are vines and trees within the family too. Acanthus can range from small ground creeping Fittonia's perfect for shaded terrariums to fast growing vines that love full sun such as Thunbergia.
