Meet The Root'd Team
Root'd Plants wouldn't operate without the absolute legends that make up the team.
Lisa
Lisa is the owner and founder of Root'd Plants. She has always had a love of the natural world, studying a Bachelor of Animal Science from 2004-2007. One day she was given a plant from a friend - a Euphorbia that resembled a tiny pineapple - and her love of plants grew. Root'd was established in 2016. It was originally known as Beats Plants (using old branding, from an unrelated business) then later rebranded to Mae Thorani. Now rebranded for the last time as Root'd Plants, the business has evolved and morphed over the years through many forms: from markets to share spaces, later launching online and a couple of bricks and mortar stores in Glebe. Lisa loves creating and with her new found love of business looks forward to whatever is on the horizon.
Kealey
Kealey is a plant obsessed horticulturist, designer and artist. When not getting her hands dirty in soil she’s getting herself covered in metal dust and paint while working on her own brand, Iron Ivy - creating bespoke metal accessories for plants. Kealey’s background is in the arts, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School and worked within the Australian design scene for many years. What started out as drawing and collecting odd or intriguing sticks and foliage while on bushwalks became a lifelong art practice of exploring the elements of nature. An interest in exploring more of the natural world led Kealey to study Horticulture formally, where she was bitten by the plant collecting bug and has over the years acquired over 200 plants of her own which, she says, teaches her patience and gratitude every day.
Paul & Kathie
Paul and Kathie are Lisa's parents. Upon retirement they found themselves surprisingly employed by their daughter. They made up the backbone of the MT team when Lisa first launched Mae Thorani online in December of 2018. Kathie's tea breaks and epic sandwiches kept the team hydrated and well fed for over 2 years. Paul put in the backbreaking work of building two massive shadehouses, a greenhouse and has mowed too many square metres to count. They stay employed to this day, although their contribution has reduced a little (due to the purchase of a motorhome) they still remain the most important team members.
