An unusual fern with wiry, stiff dark stems that give rise to green cardboard-like lobed leaves. They love warmth and will die back in winter in the southern states.
The sterile fronds have shorter stalks and broader partial surfaces. The fertile fronds have longer stems and narrower segments.
